Increasing Your Confidence?

I've always had a firm belief that actors should never really feel TOO confident about themselves because it causes them to go on auto-pilot when it comes to perform.

Perhaps I have taken that mantra a little TOO seriously...

But my problem is that I perhaps have SO little confidence that I actually find it hard to even go out there and audition for something (Even when I most likely would have been cast due to a small number of people auditioning).

You just gotta force yourself to audition more often then. (While thinking to myself, "Why I don't take my own advice?")

My avatar is a reminder to myself. I need lots of reminders...

Well to me, when I audition on a smaller scale, like community or for school, I always think that I'll see people I know and then if I don't get cast then they'll think I suck, but you know, who cares? That's the business. If you're scared of rejection now, then you'll never survive. You have to grow thick skin. It's all subjective. If they didnt want you for this part, then maybe you weren't right for this part, but maybe in their next production they'll remember you and cast you. You have to have confidence, but also remember to just relax and have fun with it. If you get it or not, either way you got something out of it.
