Infinite Joy: The Songs of William Finn is one of my favorite CD'S of all time. Carolee Carmello, Mary Testa, Lewis Cleale, Norm Lewis, Liz Callaway and others perform amazing live renditions of "I'd Rather be Sailing" "Infinite Joy" "Anytime (I am There)" "I have Found" and "Hitch hiking across America." If anyone owns this, they know how phenominal the CD is. I strongly recommend this CD to anyone who is interested in modern Musical Theater--If you own it, I'd really like to know what you think of it!!!
I adore this cd. Carolee, Testa, Liz Callaway, and Norm Lewis are amazing on it. I listen to it often. I could hear Carolee sing "I Have Found" over and over for days.

I love this CD also. William Finn is such an amazing writer! Plus you have Carolee Carmello, Liz Callaway, Mary Testa and Norm Lewis!
I'm soooo glad its more than just me. Norm Lewis is absolutely amazing and can you believe that Carolee hits a high E 6 months pregnant?
I adore Carolee. I'm convinced she can do anything.
That High E is fierce. Sends chills down my spine.

You're right Bobby...Carolee is so brillant. She is someone who I really want to record a CD...(I hope someone at PS Classics is reading this!)...I'm listening to her sing "And What If We Had Loved Like That" on Michael Rupert's Myspace page...Simply beautiful!
There's not a song called "Letting Go" on the Infinite Joy cd.

Amen to that. Marin Mazzie got a semi-solo cd, so one of my dreams is complete. I can't believe Ps Classics or Jay Records hasn't snatched Carolee up for a solo cd. I think she is one of the strongest vocalists on Broadway, and there are so many great songs she could soar through. It would be nice if she could record some of her unrecorded stage work like her gorgeous "Patterns" from Baby, "Winner Takes it All" from Mamma Mia, "Privledge to Pee" from Urinetown, "Something Wonderful" from King and I, "So in Love" from Kiss Me Kate, "You Can Always Count on Me" from City of Angels, "Storybook" from Scarlet Pimpernel. Ugh. Now I'm sad.

I know, I was always shocked Varese Sarabande, then Fynsworth Alley never snatched her up either.
Amazing! I just read Carolee's Q and A on Broadway.com and she actually comments on the solo album thing:
"From German: Hi Carolee! I've been a huge fan ever since I saw you in Kiss Me, Kate But I have a complaint: you've had plenty of us in suspense long enough, aren't you ever going to put out a solo album? Inquiring minds want to know!
Carolee responds: I do get asked that, a lot. I guess there are a couple of reasons that I haven't done it yet. The most important reason is that I just haven't been motivated or inspired to do it. I really don't want to just do a recording of 15 songs that I come up with in the next 24 hours and just slap them together and record them. It just doesn't seem important enough to put all that energy into it. I want to have a real burning desire and a great idea for something that would make an interesting CD. I just feel like it takes more thought than just throwing something together. It also takes a lot of time, and I don't have a lot of time right now. I'm usually doing eight shows a week and I have two kids. But I think it will eventually happen. It's just going to be when the light bulb goes off over my head and I go, "Oh! That is what I want to do! I want to do an album about the subway system!" Get in line now."
What a true artist. I hope she gets inspired soon!

Carolee does sing LETTING GO on the Jekyll & Hyde Concept Album from 1994. It was a duet between Emma and her father, Mr. Carew. So beautiful.
That album has my three favorite vocalists:
Anthony Warlow as Jekyll/ Hyde
Carolee Carmello as Emma
Linda Eder as Lucy
BRILLIANT!
I have this CD and I LOVE it! Finn is brilliant and I concur that Norm Lewis is brilliant. I love "Hitchiking..."; his music is so beautiful! More people need to be familiar with Finn.
This is one of my favorite CDs of all time!!!!!
William Finn = LIFE.
I really wish they'd release More Infinite Joy and Even More Infinite Joy (which I was lucky enough to attend) on CD!!!!!!!!!

Anytime is one of my all time favorite songs. It's so beautiful. I seldom listen to the whole CD, but a few of the songs do get pretty steady play...
Elegies: a Song Cycle is another great one as well. More Carmello for those, lol.
I am listening to "When the earth stopped turning" now and WOW. Carolee is simply amazing on this one too. Her voice is so sad and expressive and William Finn uses key changes within the song to enhance the power gradually. It really is a masterpeice.
