SPAMALOT
THE LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA
ALL SHOOK UP
DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS
BROOKLYN
Anyone have any ideas or thoughts about these shows? And where abouts would a person get information about them?
I don't know about SPAMALOT. I mean, it is based on MONTY PYTHON'S SEARCH FOR THE HOLY GRAIL movie which is hillarious, but the musical will not have what really made the movie so great.....the guys of Monty Python. But,we shall see.
So PhantomOfRent, I haven't seen you here before. Would you like to stand up and tell the class something about yourself.
Sure. I am a 21 year old male. I am almost finished with College (HALLELUJAH, PRAISE JESUS), hopefully getting married soon to my girlfriend whom I have been dating for over 6 years now, have been an avid musical theatre fan for years, and my dream is to one day grace the broadway stage.
My favorite musicals are in this order:
Phantom of the Opera (the musical that got me interested in
musicals)
RENT
PARADE
JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR
JEKYLL AND HYDE (the concept cast of course. Anthony Warlow is
a GOD)
WICKED
AVENUE Q
and so on........

"All Shook Up" is all Elvis music. I saw it at Goodspeed, it was very enjoyable. It isn't about Elvis as some people think, but his music is used to tell the story.

I got the chance to see 'All Shook Up' in Connecticut. I'm very excited to see what will change and stay the same when it comes to Broadway. The show was really enjoyable so I suggest you see it when it gets here. Ms. Gambatese is going places. -Penny
I also heard that they are thinking about making a "Spider-Man" musical due to the phenomenal success of the movies. I am an avid Spider-Man fan, but I don't know how good it will be as a musical. It will be interesting to see what they do with it. I wonder if they will have the 1960's theme song in it. That would ROCK!!!
yea I saw 'All Shook Up' as well and the show was very funny! I think it is goig to do very well when it hit the broadway stage!! And ofcoures Jenn was amazing!! I can't wait till she gets noticed for her talents like she should!
"The Light In The Piazza" is about a woman and her daughter on vacation in Italy. The daughter, because of an injury in her youth, has not progressed mentally past the age of eleven. She meets and falls in love with an Italian named Fabrizio, and the mother is left with the question of whether she should let her daughter to pursue love or to take her back to America to return to their former lives. Meanwhile, does she tell Fabrizio's family--all of whom react in their own ways to the intensity of this young love--about her daughter's injury?
The score is very complex, almost Britten-like in spots, but also ravishingly gorgeous. There is no way this will go up in NY without the absolutely incredible Victoria Clark starring as the mother. She absolutely rocked the house when the show played in Chicago. Whether or not the show is a hit in NY, this will make Victoria Clark a big-time star. Let's just hope they find a different director than Bartlett Sher, whose hand with the material was rather inept.
DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS
The 1998 film Dirty Rotten Scoundrels was written by Dale Launer, Stanley Shapiro and Paul Henning. The plot centers on two swindlers, crass American Freddy Benson (Butz) and suave Brit Laurence Jameson (Lithgow). After meeting on a train, the pair bet to see who can bilk $50,000 out of an heiress first.
This plot sounds perfect for a musical. And how could one go wrong with Joanna Gleason, Norbert Leo Butz, John Lithgow, and Sherie Rene Scott all in one musical?

I'll throw in another good word about All Shook Up. I saw it at Goodspeed and thought it was very cute and fun. Joe DiPietro did an amazing job with the book. The cast was pretty great as well, Jenn Gambatese is, of course, fabulous. I'll be interested to see who in the cast sticks around for Broadway. I could personally do without Manley Pope.
