Do Broadway companies have on-call physicians for any injuries or acute illnesses affecting the cast? Or do they just go to the ER or their usual MD? Are they offered insurance?
HMM, I don't think there is a firm policy. Seems to be according to the company and the producers. Usually the theatre will have somebody who will make a "house" call. The performers( usually stars) will occ have a voice or orthopedic specialists who will also see them back stage. I usually check my Playbill and there is often a special thank you or mention @ the very end if they have used someones sevices.
Emergencys are just that- 911 for cast crew or audience members.

Well, if something happens durring the performace, ususally the affected person is taken to the ER. For example, Idina Menzel fell through the trapdoor durring one of her last performances of Wicked and was rushed to the ER.
