Interesting Hairspray vocals/songs on ITUNES!

I was searching HAIRSPRAY songs on ITUNES and I looked up the song: YOU CAN'T STOP THE BEAT and found two recordings that say were not sung for the movie or OBC and for some reason they sound almost too close to the originals. Example: one by what the group is called THE STUDIO SOUND ENSEMBLE sounds really close to the movie version (but you can tell there are different vocals, but try to sound like Queen, John etc...) and the the other group called THE PARIS SINGERS sound a lot like the OBC )and there is even a guy who tries to sound like Harvey).

Is this legal? And why do they want to sound the same? I can see other groups doing it, but make it your own or are these really just like demos and I am being fooled?
