I was at the Sunday matinee of Phantom this week (which was a very well done show technically and as always the performances were outstanding) and they announced next season they will be doing Seussical, Full Monty, Aida, Miss Saigon, Into the Woods, The Graduate, Ragtime, and Urinetown. I'm sure there are more but those are some very interesting selections from a place that normaly doesn't do very contemporary pieces. No mention of any stars for next year...I hope they learned after the awful performances by them this year and put that money into the sets and tech aspects of the show. Well I can't wait to check out some of the shows, especially Urinetown, Full Monty, and The Graduate.

I happened to be there several weeks ago and caught Gypsy starring Joyce Dewitt from Threes Company. It was just dreadful. The house was barely a quarter full. I was embarassed for her. She was very nice however and met and signed autographs after the show but it was just not the role for her. I agree about production values. Wigs and costumes were horrible except for the few pieces that looked rented. The lighting and projections were also not focused. Casting was also interesting. Pop was played by a twenty something year old guy. It is a small role, would it be that hard to find a local? And the place needs a good cleaning. If you look up the spider webs on the ceiling are scary. They should switch to having less stars and more money put into production. While that sounds like a great season, I would much rather see unknown community people or equity actors than second rate soap opera and sitcom stars. But instead I am sure we will get wonderful town with Joyce and Susann Sommers. The theatre has alot of potential, they need to use it.
Yeah, they've been announcing Miss Saigon for the last two or three years - has yet to happen....
