#0"Into The Woods" at Blake High Review

I went to see Into The Woods yesterday night and I was just blown away. The sets were great, the costumes were homemade and very beauitful, and the cast was so talented. I felt like I was seeing a real production and not a bunch of high school kids on a stage.

Names you will need to remember:

Olivia Williamson was a spectatular Witch. She has a voice that Bernadette Peters would be impressed by.

Brandon Cahela played the part of the Mysterious Man/Narrator. He was terrific as always and I'm certain he will be on Broadway someday.

Barrie McLain played a great Cinderella. Her voice was amazing and her acting was flawless.

Taylor Trench was believable as the naive Jack. His acting skills and singing voice were in top form.

Chris Blem as the Baker was something great to see. It was my first time seeing him on stage and he awesomed me. This talented guy should be on Broadway.

Ashley Whiting was the Baker's Wife. She was a great singer and an amusing actress.

Jackie Rivera was a entertaining and amusing Little Red. Waving her knife and skipping around stage, she had everyone laughing.

Heather Moats was Rapunzel. Her voice was good, but overused. Her hysterics later on were believable.

Nathaniel Schull played Rapunzel's Prince. It's a rare talent indeed who can make you still love his character, even while he's singing about wanting to stray from his wife.

Kevin Nulph was Cinderella's Prince. As charming a stage presence as you could get, you were hardly surprised when the Baker's Wife succumbed to him.

All in all, the performance was very enjoyable and I expect great things from these talents.

1. Ted Allen: Everyone has an interesting life if you ask the right questions.
2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys

Sounds solid and spot on. Will there be a DVD? Tour? How long do you think Ashley will be with the show? Who could replace her? Did she really make her own costumes? That is so awesome!

PEACE.

Do you mean Blake High as in the HS in Tampa, FL? Or is it somewhere else? I'm just asking because there's a HS called Blake very close to my uni--in fact, my school is doing "Into the Woods" in the fall and I can't wait! ^_^

Then again, I just have that school on the brain right now b/c I have just finished emailing my professor about interning there in the spring. Hmm.

Anyway, I was just curious!!

I remember doing Into the Woods in my high school. Everyone was so talented and were supposed to have pursued theater careers. None of them have, as they all work 9 to 5 jobs, because that's what happens when reality sets in.

"Do you know what pledge time is, Andrew"? said the PBS Executive. "Yes", Lloyd Webber replied. "My 50th birthday special must be one program that gets done a lot." "No", mused the man from PBS heedlessy. "Not so much. Our Stephen Sondheim Carnegie Hall concert. That's a big one." Spoons, forks and knives seemed suddenly to suspend their motion in horror, all around the table.

No...that's what happens when people don't have what it takes.

Is this a High School that you are talking about?

I'm sorry it wasn't clear. Yes, this is a high school with students in the roles. It's a performing arts magnet school in Tampa, FL.

I also went to a Performing Arts school in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl, and, ten years later, out of the whole student body of my four years, only three are working actors. One was an MTV VJ, and another is in a local Fl band called Nonpoint. Everyone else became teachers, paralegals, or burn outs.

People don't realise that it is VERY different once you leave the security of school.

Yay for Blake in Tampa! :) When was the show, anyway? This past weekend I assume? What year are you? If you're not a senior, I may be interning in your classroom next spring! Now THAT would be funny! ^.~

The show was Friday night and is also scheduled for next weekend as well. Believe me, it's well worth the ten dollar ticket price. I'm a sophmore with several friends in the play, hence the review. (I'm happy to say I know Jack, the Princes, and a couple of the Mysterious Man). Interning? COOL! Maybe I'll see you next year then.

I heard Musto say that it wasn't as good as the revival. Apparently they've called Jerry Zacks in to "fix" the show.

There are plenty of 15 yr old Cinderella's out there who can do the role.

Hmmm, school's over next weekend and I'll be swimming in free time. Maybe I'll go check it out! ^_^

What's Blake like, anyway? Do you happen to know anything about the writing courses? Those are what I'm really gunning to intern in...I'm hoping that it isn't just English!! *crosses fingers*
