Hi, everyone.
I have been following this message board for about a year. Within that time, I've often found myself going back in the archives. The wealth of knowledge on here feels like a goldmine. Something that compelled me to sign up for for an account was the thread about the boards not being the way they once were. Some of the posts seeming to be missed are things I've actually wanted to have a conversation on but felt they would go unnoticed.
I am an Atlanta-based actor that tries to come to NYC once a month. If booked fairly in advance, I can fly in on a Tuesday morning, see shows Tuesday evening, Wednesday morning, and Wednesday evening, then fly out on Thursday morning -- all for about $300. It wouldn't be possible without Southwest Airlines and watching BroadwayForBrokePeople.com. It makes me curious how others that don't live in NYC see shows.
I try to do once a month or every other month; however, I'm currently in rehearsals for a play that runs April 20-30 and am therefore going to do a full week in NYC next month and see 11 shows -- technically 10, but I'm watching The Little Foxes twice so I can see Linney/Nixon alternate roles.
My watchlist for May is:
- Come From Away
- Dear Evan Hansen [IF and only if I can score a lottery ticket to the Sunday evening performance; if not, my show will be either Charlie and the Chocolate Factory -- thanks to my current obsession with the FX series Feud: Bette and Joan, which stars Jackie Hoffman -- or The Play That Goes Wrong]
- A Doll's House, Part 2 [aided by the glowing reviews here at BW]
- The Glass Menagerie
- Hello, Dolly! [the only show where I'm biting the bullet and paying full price so I'm guaranteed a ticket]
- The Little Foxes [Linney as 'Regina' / Nixon as 'Birdie']
- The Little Foxes [Nixon as 'Regina' / Linney as 'Birdie']
- Miss Saigon
- Natasha, Pierre, and the Great Comet of 1812 [thanks for the tip on doing research before seeing this one; I bought the book on Amazon and am studying up while listening to the soundtrack -- going into this one "cold" would have made for a lot of missed dialogue due to sensory overload]
- Sunset Boulevard
- War Paint
The list will change if something ends while I'm there. I'm all about saving money with a rush [except SRO, which sounds like torture] and the information compiled in BroadwayForBrokePeople.com makes seeing that many shows possible.
Other recent shows/trips include...
March 2017
- The Price
- Significant Other
- Man From Nebraska [Off-B'way]
- On the Exhale [Off B-Way]
January 2017
- The Front Page
- Yen [Off-B'way]
November 2016
- The Color Purple
- Heisenberg
- The Humans [first show I've ever seen twice on B'way, this time it was in its new venue and I was sitting at a different much better angle]
May 2016
- Blackbird
- Eclipsed
- The Father
- Hamilton
- The Humans
- Long Day's Journey Into Night
Anyway, sorry to be longwinded, and I very much look forward to interacting with everyone on here from time to time.
