So I was planning on taking my little cousin who is 9 years old to see 13: The Musical. However, my mother thinks that the subject matter might be a little too "mature" for him. I completely disagree (considering my mother took me to see A Chorus Line and Miss Saigon when I was eight years old!!)
I personally think my little cousin would be able to handle the show, but she disagrees.
For those people who have seen the show, what are your thoughts/suggestions? What are the major themes of the show and would they be relevant for a 9-year old?

I actually was going to post the same exact questions!
I mean, I saw West Side Story as a kid, and that show isn't exactly child-friendly...

It's typical middle school life, most inappropriate part is a boy and girl making out. Worst word: Crap.
I think it's fine for a 9 year old.

Posted: 9/24/08 at 3:53pmI saw the show last night and loved it. More to the point, there's absolutely nothing in the show to offend the sensibilities of any but the most sheltered child on earth. It was clearly designed for "family" audiences. It's a little edgier than "The Little Mermaid," but nothing in the show would shock anyone who's used to watching Miley Cyrus. It's also a lot smarter than those shows, but that's not what you were asking!

It is fine to take a 9 year old to if you want them to start calling every kid they don't like a fag-mo and to teach them that is is ok to not just make fun of the handicapped but to get them to use their disabillity to get you into R rated movies.
(and there is some bad language besides crap).

"and there is some bad language besides crap"
What then? Unless they changed it for the dress rehearsal all they said was crap.

Personally, I would not take anyone under 12 to see the show, nor do I think the show is even appriate for some 13 year olds. Some of the jokes are very off color and some might find the material very offensive.
If I were you I would stay on the safe side, and I would have to say NO.

I'm 27 and I found the show to be immensely offensive.
I wouldn't take any human being of any age to this show.
