Like I said, we were looking at Aladdin, Matilda or School of Rock but other suggestions are okay. Both my kids are boys if that helps."

Matilda's closing at the beginning of January and the other two are open runs (as far as I know), so if it's on your list, I recommend seeing it while you still can. I personally liked Aladdin and School Of Rock more, but they'll both (hopefully) still be around for your next visit. If it helps at all, I thought SOR was very true to the movie without being a carbon copy of the movie, so if you liked the movie, you'll probably like the show. Whatever you decide, I hope you all have an amazing trip!

Awesome ..... great decision !

Also we were considering seeing another show when we were in New York since we're not really paying to see Hamilton. Which shows do you recommend?

I think your boys are too old to really enjoy Aladdin, especially a 13 year old.  But I guess it depends on the individual child.  Both my 10 and 12 year olds thought Aladdin was much too childish for them.

Matilda is really good but my 12 year old daughter thought it was too kiddish for her. My 10 year old liked it.  I liked it much more than either of my two older daughters!  It is also already touring quite a bit so you may just be able to wait and see it on tour.

School of Rock is a really fun show ..... if you are picking exclusively from your boys' point of view, I think this would be the best choice.  It is not a super high quality show like Hamilton, Color Purple or She Loves Me, but it is very entertaining and kind of perfect for 10 to 14 year olds, especially boys.

Some other really high quality shows to consider are Curious Incident (very minimal sex reference), King and I (100% family friendly), and Les Mis (the prostitute scene is not explicit or over done).

If it was me I would choose either School of Rock or Curious Incident.  Curious Incident is completely different than Hamilton, so you would be seeing two completely different types of shows.  It is also really, really good and engaging for adults or older kids (age about 10 and up), whereas School of Rock is fun and light but not particularly engaging for adults as much as Curious Incident.

You could probably get a good discount on either show.  Have fun !  Your family is so lucky to get to experience Hamilton together.  I have been lucky enough to see it a few times at the Public and on Broadway, but I wish I could take my girls to see it.

I don't know if you are planning on having dinner with your family in the theatre district during your visit, but if so, Consider Carmine's.  It is perfect for a family with kids ... entrees are large, delicious and served family style.  For example, chicken parm is 4 chicken breasts.  You could get one pasta and almost share it for four people. Two entrees would definitely be enough for four.

Glad you decided to take the tickets!

FWIW, I have a 9 and 7 year old (2 boys) and they have listened to the soundtrack and love it.  I think the language and references have mostly gone over their head.  They did ask about the affair as they didn't know what Hamilton had "done wrong" so I simplified it and they accepted my explanation.  I got tickets to take them in December in the release of tickets last Wednesday, so they will be 10 and 8, and they are very excited.
