Or is it a traditional book musical?
I just somehow get the impression that there's very little dialogue from the clips I've seen.

Posted: 4/21/08 at 12:34pmFrom what I understand, it's *a lot* like SIDE SHOW or DREAMGIRLS, where there *is* a book (with chunks of dialogue throughout), but the majority of the piece is sung-through ... I'm seeing it tonight, so yeah, I don't know 110%

Posted: 4/21/08 at 12:45pmIMO, from what I've heard from the score so far (will see show on May 3), one disk is being generous. How about 0 disks?

Posted: 4/21/08 at 12:54pmThere are only (what?) 15-17 songs listed in the playbill? That's worthy of one (1) disc, buuuut, if they want 'filler/dialogue', I'd LOVE 2 discs. ANY WAY I CAN GET MY BUCCHINO FIX ... THAT'S ALL I CARE ABOUT!

Posted: 4/21/08 at 1:00pmI think I made it clear in my posting that I was going to see the show on May 3rd. My comment was based on what I've heard so far, both in the media, on the air and word of mouth from people who are regular theatregoers and are inclined to go with an open mind. So don't start any furor about talking about something I know nothing about.

Posted: 4/21/08 at 1:57pmI saw the BWW preview, and I loved it. It just seems like a beautifully simple musical. I love that. I'm not a huge fan of Matt's voice, but everyone else seems great, so I can't wait for the recording.

From what I've heard, the show is very much like PASSION in that the book and the score are intertwined in a way that is hard to tell where one ends and the other begins. It's not sung-through, but songs come out of dialogue and don't really have an "ending" in the typical sense. I haven't seen it but that's what I understand from my friends' comments.
I enjoyed the BWW.com preview.

It is NOT sung through. The songs float in and out of dialog...much of the show is underscored, however.
It's quite magical and beautiful. I'm seeing it again Weds.
