Posted: 7/22/08 at 5:19pmDoes anyone else find this an unnecessary revival? At least as a Broadway venue? GODSPELL's strength has always been its humble origins and low-tech charms. I fear it will be louder and somehow enlarged, magnifyings the deficiencies. It needs a very deft hand, or it can be cloying, as anything with urchins and clowns can be (STOP THE WORLD, JESUS DOESN'T WANT YOU TO GET OFF). The score remains wonderful, but it'll be interesting to see if people line up to plunk down 110 bucks for this.
