re: Is Jerry Springer coming to ny?

I heard a little while ago that a lot of the backers er... backed out and so it's no longer coming. It was on playbill.com, so it's pretty accurate.

re: Is Jerry Springer coming to ny?

It's still scheduled for SF in February. Beyond that, we'll see.

re: Is Jerry Springer coming to ny?

well from what i read in playbill today one of the co-writers said that the subject matter (plenty of swearing and graphic imagery) is likely to be too commercially risky for conservative Broadway audiences.

We probably won't be seeing it in New York.

re: Is Jerry Springer coming to ny?

I hope it turns around. It was one show I was really looking forward to seeing. I love the cast recording. I Just Wanna Dance is a spectacular song. I've heard there is a club version being played at dance clubs in London. I would love to get my hands on that.

Well there we are. Its US run is now indefinitely postponed.

It also looks as if they won't be seeing it in San Francisco.

At least there is a recording of the show that will go on BBC2 televsion in the UK in January and I would guess then become commerically available.

Sounds like they will close the show in January then.

re: Is Jerry Springer coming to ny?

This was on playbill.com yesterday:

"The London hit Jerry Springer—The Opera has postponed its pre-Broadway run in San Francisco from the 2004-2005 season and is now planning on a New York debut in 2006.

"As a result of creative team availability, Jerry Springer—The Opera will not be coming to San Francisco as part of the Best of Broadway 2004-2005 season" reads an official statement. "This multi-award winning musical will be presented in San Francisco in a future season."

Broadway plans have been bumped from its previously announced Oct. 20, 2005 start date. According to a production spokesperson, the producers are still looking to open the musical on Broadway in the spring of 2006."

re: Is Jerry Springer coming to ny?

Well, it is. Sort of. Although it's called Jerry Springer: The Opera, and really follows opera conventions, it's being billed more-so as musical. It's quite good too and I agree about "I Just Wanna Dance." Easily one of the best songs I've ever heard. Brilliant! The whole show is!

Broadway audiences suck - trash like AIDA plays for years and garbage like Hairspray and The Lion King win Best Musical, yet an original and groundbraking show is bound to fail.

London is where it's at!

re: Is Jerry Springer coming to ny?

If it's not going to NYC.. it's not much of a loss.... I went to see the show about 1 month ago 'cause I heard it's gonna close... and it's TOTAL crap! It started alright, then it turned out boringly stupid.... it might be sth new (the approuch.. Jerry Springer combined with opera...etc), but definitely NOT something good! Trust me! You'll hope it'd never went to Broadway!

Woah, don't you diss Hairspray. I liked AIDA, but it was an immensely flawed piece of work saved only by good performances.
