I adore this score. I haven't seen it, so I don't know the quality of the book. It's my favorite Arlen score. Listening to the GREAT Encores cast right now...

Posted: 11/16/07 at 3:30pmNot unless they tossed out the book and brought in someone to write a completely brand new one. I saw that Encores presentation of the show and you're right the score is absolutely gorgeous, but that melodramatic story about black jockeys and their love lives in the 1940s was just awful and full of stereotypes. Not sure if the Arlen estate would allow it, but unless they authorize a completely new book, that show will never be seen on Broadway again.
