I assume since we have yet to hear anything about a new Roger, that Tims is extending his stay?

I find it unsual that it is so close, and yet we have not heard a thing.

Yes he extended, but I'm not sure how long.

I remember hearing that he extended to the end of September, but I don't remember *where* I heard this, so don't take my word for it.

I'm glad, though. I love Tim, and I was unsure what bringing a new Mark AND a new Roger on roughly at the same time would do.

Oh gosh, I hope not. I just saw Tim today at a matinee of Rent, and I HATED him. Not him, of course, but his acting and screaming and yelling and singing and I'm-angry-so-I'm-gonna-attack-Mimi attitude. It was my friend's first time seeing the show after having seen the movie and loving it, and he agreed that Tim was horrible as Roger. Blah. Full review soon. :)

I heard September too, Monica, but like you, I can't remember where. I think I probably read it here.

I liked him, yelling aside. Not my favorite, but certainly not my least favorite. I love my Rogers angry.

I am so happy he extended. My dream cast would be to see Chris Hanke, Tim Howar, and Karmine onstage together with the current ensemble. I was satisfied after seeing it Wednesday and plan on going back again soon to lotto when Matt leaves.

Lets hope so. While he may not be everyones cup of tea he is easily my favorite Roger and I can't really explain why but the anger in him just really worked for me

Same here gustof. I saw Cary twice and he played by the same typical formulas I felt. I mean I had no complaints, but I felt like that approach was nothing new and idk I didn't really feel it much.
I saw Jay Wilikison twice as well and he was great. He was a more reluctant Roger and played the part realistically and had a great voice.
Tim had the best act 2 Roger I ever saw and all the emotion was well invested in the right parts. His voice wasn't anything perfect, but his acting was terrific and combined to make a character I entirely was able to understand.

The least angry Roger I've ever seen was Adam Pascal...only in the movie unfortunately.

And I adored Tim. Yes he was angry, but he had a fantastic tender side to Roger that I never really saw in Will Chase or Cary. I agree completely with C is for Company.

He was totally toned down in the movie. Sometimes I do wish he'd been as angry on film as he was on stage, but I think what he did worked.

exactly...I really wish I could formulate what it is about Tim's performance that I just find so endearing. I think maybe the fact that he isn't the crazy good singer that some of the other Rogers have been makes it all the more fascinating. I sort of thought that his voice was a different kind of "rock" voice but still very rock. I found his "What You Own" to be one of the best I've ever seen (minus the fact that he was paired up w/ Caplan who just looked bored and arrogant) there was just so much pain in his performance. You could just see it through his rage. Ahhh I love it!

As I said earlier, I've never seen Adam play Roger on stage back "in the day", but I did see him at Rent 10. Of course, every cast member was top-notch then, it being a special performance, but he blew me away there, and still wasn't as angry as every other Roger I've seen. What he did then and on film definitely worked.

Anyway, back on track. It seems somtime that he can't control how powerful his voice is. He puts every bit of himself into songs, which of course makes for a fantastic performance, but sometimes it's a bit too much. Like when he completely drowned Gordon out in Will I, for example.

Ah, Caplan. Yet another reason I'm glad Tim is staying longer. I can't wait to see him perform alongside a Mark who CARES. Especially in "What You Own" and "Goodbye Love", where Tim really shines.

Ah, Matt always looks bored and arrogant. Except in stagedoor picture, where he looks like a chipmunk on speed.

I know you have to be careful about drowning out Gordon as it's the wonderful Luther Creek who has a voice worth hearing! haha oh Monica that was hilarious and also very true :)

Well, it's true. Sad, but true.

It's even sadder that the best picture they could get of him is the one in the Rent playbill. You almost feel sorry for him. Almost.

I've heard (not through reliable sources, but it's definitely quite a prolific rumor) that Tim is leaving to tour with his band but will be returning to Rent. The speculation is that since they just hired Christopher J. Hanke, and we've yet to hear any casting news for Roger, a swing will be bumped up to play Roger until Tim's return.

If that's true, who might play Roger in his absence, then? I can't keep track of who swings for which parts anymore.

Is he good?

If Tim DOES leave in July, my mom won't see him, and she MUST see a good Roger, otherwise I'll never hear the end of it.

From what I remember, he does not look the part really at all. Um, I'm sure he is talented and could prove me wrong with that, but I really hope Tim stays, I want to see a good leading trio when I go back to lotto in August.

I really liked Tim as Roger. They seem to be cutting it a bit close on announcing whether he's staying or leaving. In broadway.com's announcment of Christopher as Mark, they definitely made it sound as though Tim had extended.

I definitely think if he were leaving next week, there would've been something published by now...

Although I don't particularly dislike Tim's Roger, it's unfortunate that with someone like Luther on the stage every night, that HE isn't playing Roger.

Hmmm. Tim's got a MySpace bulletin posted that says, among other things:

Also, message or comment if you are planning on attending the July 29th show! (Tim's last scheduled performance!) We need the info... details why later!

Perhaps I'll message whoever runs the page and ask what the deal is, exactly, if he's not contractually obligated to keep his mouth shut.
