I was thinking of going to see Our Town tonight via the student rush. I do know that they sell them at half hour. But, I was wondering if they are hard to get. I would hate to make that trek downtown only to find out later that I stood no chance in getting one and realizing that I could have spent my time seeing or getting tickets to another show rather then having to turn back and head home to Long Isand.
I'm not sure about this show, but if I'm worried about rushes that take place 2 hrs-1/2 hr before curtain, I often go to the box office in the afternoon and ask them what the chances are for that particular performance. Shows that do rushes at those times are usually just selling availability, so they are usually willing to let you know much availability they have and what they expect to sell that day.
So, if you have time I would recommend going there in the afternoon, and then if it doesn't look good, head uptown.
I actually tried the rush a few weekends ago for a Saturday night performance. The show was sold out ahead of time but I decided to go by the box office anyways. Basically the tickets are completely subject to availability. I was put on a wait list 30 minutes before curtain, since it was already sold out, and told that if any tickets were left and there weren't people waiting who were willing to pay full price I would get in. I was lucky in that me and the other person waiting got in because of two cancellations. And I guess I don't know if they would sell them at half hour or not, since in my instance we had to wait until right before the show started to get ours.
So I hope that helps, if you check tickets online and it's not sold out yet I would definitely give it a try (since it's a great show).
