There's something truly repellent in taking someone's money to see your work, but expecting them to say nothing but compliments about it.

I pretty much agree with what's been said above: if the creators and producers are putting the show in front of a public audience (not an audience of theatre industry insiders or friends of the cast/crew/creators) then they should be ready to hear both the positive and negative feedback from said audience.
