How dare you quote a Lloyd Webber song to me in this, my darkest of hours.
Yaaaaaay!
Here's hoping they can come to an agreement and the strike does not continue through Thanksgiving.
See, my babies . . . Local 1 just needed to make a point. I "knew" in my heart, it would be one week and maybe a little more. Local 1 members know how much it hurts their actor/musician friends, keeping them out of work and pay -- and bless them all.
Local 1, you are right and I send out positive vibes you get what you're asking for as quickly as possible. And thank you for considering and opening up to "talk" to help us all get what we want -- back to work and back to letting us be entertained by the top talents and magic of Broadway (including you wonderful people) -- ASAP.
I wish more people on this board were like you AngActing!!!

OK, Pippin, I have rephrased the subject title.

Why are they waiting till Saturday to do it?
FYI: It's "whippoorwill." Only because that word comes up in my spelling bee all the time.
Rather than starting a new thread (although I'm sure someone will), can some people weigh in with their thoughts on what this will mean? Do you think that they will be rational or do you think the talks are more likely to be in vain? I know it's all speculation at this point, but the fact that they are willing to talk is already a good sign....so what does one think the chances are of seeing shows open for Thanksgiving? And I know NO ONE KNOWS....but I know a lot of people on these boards are very up to speed and know people involved on either side, so I wanted to hear some thoughts...
I would assume that some preliminary, non official chatter has gone back and forth, and that it was encouraging *enough* to make the two sides announce they will go back to the table.
Which bodes well for them coming to an agreement soon, hopefully...
Yep, let's hope. I'm dying to see August: Osage County again before I go away for Thanksgiving.

Not to be pessimistic--this is FANTASTIC news--but don't count your chickens. Yes, they have scheduled a meeting, but we aren't out of the woods, yet. If the meetings go as well as the last ones did, we could be back at square one.
Here's to hoping they come to an agreement or at least that each side is satisfied enough that the other is negotiating in good faith that shows can be up and running Saturday night.
Hopefully, the fact that they are waiting until Saturday to discuss means that each side is making sure that they are coming in with an offer that can start discussions and not end them.

Well there go my tickets to see "Mermaid" this Saturday...
*fingers crossed*
markymatt, I think the difference between these negotiations and those that occurred over the past few weeks is that the threat has become a reality. The producers called the bluff of LOcal One and Local One carried through with their threat. The producers may be slightly more willing to cave if it imeans shows are open in time for Thanksgiving.
I really hope they do get things worked out by Thanksgiving!!!

They should have probably used that word in 25APCSB. I requested "Botulism," but I don't think they ever used it.
