Saw Jesse's solo show at Joe's Pub tonight. It was absolutely wonderful. It seems the songs by John Michael LaChiusa and Bill Finn are written especially for Jesse as he delivers them so brilliantly. And the stories he tells are hilarious! He's such a terrific performer.
He's only got one show left, on July 4. Do yourself a favor and go!

I had heard that he would be singing songs from LaChiusa's upcoming SEE WHAT I WANNA SEE (formerly R SHOMAN). If so, what songs were they and HOW were they? The songs I have heard from the show are amazing (especially the title song and "No More"). Did he sing anything from LITLE FISH? Any rare Finn stuff? These 2 composers are my absolute favorite musical theatre writers and I'd love to know every single detail before you forget anything!

Posted: 6/21/05 at 2:05amWell I must tell you I was at the show tonight, and the house was not full, and, friends, you should be ashamed of yourselves! I had a wonderful time. Making fun of Max von Essen is wonderful (I accuse him of giving me strep throat) and making fun of Lea Delaria (to her face because she was in the audience and they are friends) is even better! He's a fun F.C. Jesse's gettin' jazzy! Turn it out for his next show. He's worth the 20 dollars and ANYTHING is worth two dirty martinis. So what are you waiting for? Say adios to your pantalones and find your way to Joe's Pub and look forward to enjoying "The Christian Thing to Do" (Audra McDonald--The Seven Deadly Sins---listen to it on NPR) and...what was that song that I loved?..."A Fraud" or something like that by Michael John LaChiusa and so many other fruitful canciones. If you don't enjoy it I will go to any show you want without charge if you pay for me.

I went to see John's show last week and didn't know JTF was doing one, so I've been bugging my parents to take me to both on the 4th.
I have such a strong desire to see it. Why can't July come any sooner?????

Posted: 6/21/05 at 7:46amI was at Johnny T's show last night, and I saw Jesse running around getting ready. I wanted to stay, but I had somewhere else to be. I do have tickets for the 4th thoughh, so I'm excited for that. I'm glad you all had a good time!

I was lucky enough to catch Jesse Tyler Ferguson solo Cabaret show at Joe's Pub last night and I recommend that if you haven't seen it yet, get tickets for the 4th of July show. I very much enjoyed Mr. Ferguson in "Spelling Bee" and (particularly) in "Where Do We Live?" so I figured I'd give his Cabaret a shot. With it, I think, Ferguson cements himself as one of New York's most likable young actors. Mr. Ferguson's unique vocal style and impeccable emotional connection with the material-whether comic or serious-makes any lack of traditional vocal prowess a total non-issue. Who wouldn't rather see someone fully connect with the lyrics of a song (a must for William Finn material in particular) than an American Idol-esque belter shout out words with all the delicacy and nuance of a blitzkrieg attack. Most singers these days are hamburgers, Jesse Tyler Ferguson is steak tartare.
