I attended a JRB performance last night. He of course, is amazing and was joined by Malcom Gets and Jen Colella (sp?- Urban Cowboy). Anyway, he's teachihng 'aspiring' musical theater actors at the University of Southern California. He told this story about the first class he taught: After the class, this male actor walked up to him joined by a friend and said there's this show I saw in Chicago you'd really like! It's about this man and this woman's break up and her story moves backwards, his story moves forward and they meet in the middle! Jason looked over at his friend and said "Is he ****ting me?" and thus the friend replied, "No, I think he really liked it."

If I ever meet these people, blood will spill. USC actors...wow! I know many of them, and neither can they act but they have no brains either WITH THE EXCEPTION of a handfull of brilliant people.

JOHN LITHGOW I just realized, your last name is Butz! Both "Norbert" AND "Butz" are in your name! You must have gotten picked on a lot as a child!

Jason Robert Brown :)

That story made me grin, especially since I just saw the show today. I'm sure the guy felt like a total idiot after the fact. Updated On: 3/13/05 at 06:31 PM

Imagine how JRB would react if the guy said he didn't like the show.

Jason is one of the most brilliant musical theater writers out there today. Up there with Guettel, Tesori, LaChuisa, Lippa, Schwartz (yes and I mean it too to all of you Wicked bashers!), Ahrens and Flaherty etc. Saying this, how can aspiring new musical theater actors 'make it' without knowing who the **** these people are. These USC kids also said that they love the classic musicals...like Phantom, and Evita. NO disrespect to Andrew Lloyd Webber because I love a lot his music (and I mean that)...but these shows are NOT classics! It makes me angry that these people aspire towards greatness (or so they claim) but they wouldn't know what greatness is if it hit them in the face. I went to USC (not the theater school) and I know exactly what Jason is talking about. I'm not bitter, just frustrated with how stupid some people are.

I'm not sure whether to feel sorry for this kid, or be utterly disgusted. Maybe a little of both.

[title of show] on Broadway. it's time. believe.

JRB is a genius. 'Nuff said. I've heard he's a jerk though. I'm not passing judgement, it's just what I heard.

wow... they should appreciate how lucky they are to get lessons from him! Meh-if they don't know who he is, I doubt they know much of anything else about MT. See how far they go...

You're so lucky to have been able to see JRB!!! If I hadn't had a ticket to see the final Friday performance of Ruthless: The Musical (loved it!!!), I would have been there too. Did you just see JRB or did you also attend The Last Five Years. If so, what did you think? I saw the same production a couple of months ago and am returning on Thursday. Had mixed feelings about this particular production, but I love the show so much I'm going to see it again, just to experience this amazing musical. And PS: We at Broadwayworld.com are much more savvy than those USC brats. (I'm a UCLA grad and we don't like'em!)

I didn't see it but I know the man playing Jamie. I saw him in Floyd Collins opposite Bryce Ryness. He's just terrific!
