Now I've got tickets for it - and mostly because of what Addy and iflit have had to say!

I've been listening to the original cast recording over and over and over again. And can't wait for the current cast recording because they are just that wonderful!
DG, I'm so glad that you are going to be able to see it.

Do we know for certain that they're going to do a cast recording?

My beloved mate is on the original cast album, one of the musicians - - and did that
show almost 35 years ago at the gate. The songs are timeless and ever so
memorable, I'm so pleased an entire new generation loves it as well !

I would just like to add my enthusiasm for this production. I went in not knowing what to expect ...and was completely blown away. The performers are FANTASTIC - amazing vocals...
Highlights included "Sons Of", "Amsterdam" (...and basically everything Robert Cuccioli sang), and especially NATASCIA DIAZ's "My Death" - which was thrilling. I look forward to the new cast recording (I believe they are doing it) and seeing it again...

So long ago...
Long, long, ago...
Sons of your sons
Or sons passing by,
Children we lost
In lullabies,
Sons of true love
Or sons of regret,
All of the sons
You cannot forget,
Some built the roads,
Some wrote the poems,
Some went to war,
Some NEVER came home,
Sons of your sons
Or sons passing by,
Children we lost
In lullabies...
So long ago...

is there any rush/SRO/student discount for this show?
David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail

When we went there were a lot of signatures asking for email info on the possible cast recording. I'm hoping they DO capture this cast on CD. There were so many standout performances that it was hard to pick one.

If she never did another thing in theater, her rendering of My Death would still be something to be proud of for a lifetime. It is, and I don't use this word lightly, exquisite.

Thanks for the website info!
I'm eagerly awaiting reviews... though I know how I feel about the show.

My sister and nephew saw it last night and were raving about it--especially the sequence from My Death to Ay Marieke.
My sister wants to know why they deleted Marathon from this production.

I am not sure I know why the Times reviewer thought the show was overamplified unless it was on the night of the review but not when I saw it. I don't think the show needs any amplification but did not find it overbearing or too loud when I saw it (Row F in center orch).
As for the ommission of Marathon, I do like the song but didn't feel it ruined the show to take it out. There were several Brel songs inserted that were not in the original but again, they did not distract from the flow of the piece. I might have changed the sequence of some of them but for another 5 min in the show, it might have been nice to keep Marathon in.

I find myself wondering whether most of the reviewers have seen the same show I've seen (twice).
C'est la vie, I guess. But I stand by my assessment that the show at The Zipper is terrific, as are all of the actors.

Good grief, I can't remember the last time I disagreed with so many critics about a musical. I didn't find it overamplified or overstaged in the least. I'm a bit stunned -- I really thought the reviews would be glowing. (A couple of them were, and a couple were mixed, but the Talkin' Broadway review seemed completely off base to me.)
Oh well, if you haven't seen it, I really think it's one of the best evenings of theatre to be had in NYC right now.

I'm baffled by the reviews.
I hope the show has a long and wonderful run and that everyone has the chance to see it!

The entire ensemble, and the musicians are so talented and bring the show to life in such a moving and exciting way.
I agree with you, SamIAm, about the question of overamplification - I didn't find it to be that way at all.
And, I agree with Iflit - and the others who have posted in this thread - the show at The Zipper is terrific, and I'm looking forward to seeing it again.
