Posted: 2/28/07 at 3:37amDo any exist??? The OBCR only has costume sketches. I'm very curious as to what the original production looked like. Anyone know where I can find some?

You're such a smart-ass sometimes, Lizzy...but that's why I like you.
Julian, the souvenir program is full of them, but I don't have a scanner.

Wow, I don't think I realized just how beautiful Marla is...
why isn't she working more?

Posted: 2/28/07 at 12:34pmSuch a great show too, I saw my High School do a minimalist production that was amazing. Apparently, someone who had seen the Broadway incarnation several times, said that it was even better than the Broadway production.

Posted: 2/28/07 at 12:36pmThe Broadway production itself was pretty minimalist, actually. Very dark, shadowy lighting, lots of black, and minimal set pieces.

Eh, I really loved it. Unfortunately, it wasn't promoted well, and came along just when the current in-your-face, self-aware, crazy musical comedy trend of The Producers, The Full Monty, Hairspray, etc. came along.
But I still think (along with Ragtime and Light in the Piazza) it's one of the most beautiful scores of the last 10 years.

I really enjoy this score.
But why is Jane a child and Helen and adult?

I haven't read the book, but I was aware that the musical made Helen older. I guess they had their reasons -- maybe to be more of a mother-figure to young Jane?
It's not unheard-of though. The Secret Garden musical makes Dickon a teenager/young man, when he's typically around Mary's age.

"But why is Jane a child and Helen and adult?"
In the book, Helen is several years older than Jane; definitely not a woman, but a young teenager.
That being said, in the La Jolla performances, Helen was played by a young girl.

Posted: 2/28/07 at 7:24pmI'm reading this book for English right now. I had no idea it was musical-ized.
It was awesome. - theaterkid1015

The book is fantastic and having read it several times and being an English major, one of my favorites!
Thanks for the help.
