Jane Eyre score

I have just gotten my hands on the score of Jane Eyre and I am in heaven! But I have noticed clear resemblances between it and that of Les Miz, Miss Saigon and Martin Guerre. I know that Boublil and Schonberg did not write Jane Eyre; did anyone else notice these similarities, or does anyone know a reason for them?

I enjoy the recording very much...very different score than what I am used to.

I loved that score as well, tho' I didn't notice any similarities to the shows you mentioned. While I didn't expect the show to sweep the 2001 Tonys, I'm still bitter that Paul Gordon's work didn't win the laurels it deserved, and that Marla Schaffel was passed over in favour of (the admittedly very talented) Christine Ebersole's one-act performance in 42nd St. *sigh*

And now I think I'll go listen to that CD again!

OMG, I'm not the only Jane Eyre fan! :) But I don't see any Boublil & Shonberg similarities either.

I adore the score, and was shocked that Marla Schaffel didn't get her due for that role. It's one of the most lush, romantic, poetic scores out there, and terribly underrated. Glad you like it!

I love the score and I thought it was beautifully staged. The score really reminds me more of Secret Garden than anything by Boublil and Schoenberg. I fell in love with both upon first listen, but found The Producers to be instantly forgettable. Jane Eyre deserved a longer run and I agree that the Tony absolutely belonged to Marla. The Tony for score should have gone to either Full Monty or Jane Eyre that year as well. And how did the lighting for Producers win over Eisenhauer and Fischer's innovative and incredibly effective design? I just don't get it.

Gorgeous score, groundbreaking design, beautiful staging, amazing cast...
A real shame this show did not come along at a more opportune time. A few nips and tucks here and there and it would have been almost perfect.

I bought the OBC the minute it was available, and it is consistently one of my favorites

I agree with the Secret Garden "feel".

I adore this show - and score. I don't remember much from the actual show, but I remember loving it. Marla Schaffel WAS robbed.
