I went all the way from Toronto Canada to see it! It was AMAZING!!!!! Jason Robert Brown has some great new stuff up his sleeve! The preview of his new show "Honeymoon in Vegas" is terrific! Very good stuff. Some of the new songs on his new album (coming in October!) have been running through my head since the concert! Unfortunately we didn't hear about his other "Younger People" show except that it has a cast of 13 kids singing the opening number and it's TEMPORARILY called Thirteen. I have a good feeling that Jason is about to come on strong in the Broadway community in the next few years!
It was pretty awesome. Best concert I've seen him do yet. He had some great guests as well. Brian D'Arcy James, and Carolee Carmello were my favorites. I can't wait for his new album. I also enjoyed "I'm getting out". His personal F!@# you to Broadway politics and Ben Brantley.
Haha! Great song! I love the rhythm! I also really liked his new song from Honeymoon in Vegas! I am gonna be the first person to pre-order is new album! p.s. carolee carmello kissing his feet and sitting on the piano was awesome! And when the person(Can't remember her name!) forgot the words to I Can Do Better Than That I actually was crying with laughter! They all were so funny and talented!
Julia Murney (Wild Party) was the one who messed up the lyrics. She finished with a bang though.
Jason and Brantley aren't on the best terms because of Parade. (And Urban Cowboy didn't help either) A lot of people felt that Parade deserved more (ESPECIALLY JRB), and there was a lot of hubbub and exchanged words of bitterness.
FOSSE winning best musical over Parade was just salt, hotsauce, lemon juice, and Hydrochloric Acid on the wound. (Does anyone remember when Urban Cowboy was up for Best Score and JRB was shown on camera when they read his name sarcastically crossing his fingers?)
i didnt know that jrb did the score for urban cowboy, it was critically panned, right? thats odd, the last five years is genius in my opinion. i guess you cant win em' all...
I was on my lunch break in Manhattan at about 11:15, walking to Subway on the corner of 48th and 8th, and I see him walking past me with an Urban Cowboy jacket on. Of course, I'm completely starstruck, and say "That's Jason Robert Brown!", and I say "Excuse Me", before asking for his autograph, but he brushes right past me, when he heard both things I had said. I called after him making sure he knew I was there , but he kept walking, ignoring every word I said.
I don't know what it was that caused him to be so rude, but it made me lose a lot of respect for him.
He's not the easiest person to talk to. He didn't write the whole Urban Cowboy score, just some "new" songs. But it was ruled by the Tony voters that it had enough "new" music to be in the category.
He is VERY bitter.
His music is brilliant, and I am so glad that every regional theatre in the US is doing SFANW and L5Y, because he was thinking about quitting for a while after Parade.
