Jawbreaker movie musical in the works

Jawbreaker writer/director Darren Stein recently was interviewed on the indie podcast Release Date Rewind to celebrate the 25th anniversary of his dark campy comedy. He mentioned that he's hard at work developing the Jawbreaker movie musical, based on his stage musical libretto. The film hasn't been greenlit by Sony yet, but the filmmaker wants pop stars in the cast like Kim Petras as Vern Mayo (now a trans character, instead of Fern), Mary J. Blige (as Detective Vera Cruz), Chloe Bailey, Chappell Roan, plus Judy Greer from the original film as Ms. Sherwood (originally played by Carol Kane). He mentioned he recently had a meeting with Chloe Bailey about the project. He would like to bring back many original actors from the film, including the leads Rose McGowan, Rebecca Gayheart, and Julie Benz, in some capacity. Full episode here: linktr.ee/releasedaterewind
