Yankeefan- Thanks...
BTW- What I mean by "soap opera" is like your watching a TV show. Basically just watching a TV.
"Dissipation is much worse than cataclysm."-that's the line I was looking. Chris finally remembered it. Unfortunately I did not hear it bec. of the background noise or probbably due to blasting my XANADU OBCR on my iPod for the last few days which might have damage my hearing already!

Saw the show yesterday and I am still thinking about it. I was moved so much by it and not sure if I have ever seen a stronger acting ensemble in a long time. Major Tony noms if not wins will come from the cast for the work on stage ad well as behind. This show is not one to miss at all. It was just simply amazing. The show did not feel 3.5 hours at all.

Jaystarr, I have to agree with your original 10/10 report. While I did not love the show, I did enjoy it. (I too, was thinking of getting a hearing aid...I am always straining to hear actors from the rear mezzanine)
There WERE some really good one-liners. The one that comes to mind is, "If we could see into the future, we wouldn't get off of our couches." (Someting to that affect) I also loved the "You played cops and Native Americans" comment as well...
I agree that Deanna Dunagan should win the Tony...she was fantastic!
Act three was definitely more of a let-down for me...after such a build-up with act two. (Although time DID fly...3 hrs went by so quickly!)
I think Johnna stayed because she needed the money. But it also made me think about her past. She had said that both of her parents were deceased. Did she take care of them in their final hours? Is this why she was sympathetic to Violet? Did she recognize that Violet's days on the planet were limited?
Is it just me or was Johnna under-utilized? I don't know...I felt as though I was waiting for her to know some "secret" about Bev and his suicide...maybe he hinted to her of his final plans...maybe she was another (illegitimate) Weston sister...I was waiting for SOMETHING additonal about her (but clearly didn't get it).
Bev's suicide...I think he killed himself for a number of reasons...unable to write poetry, guilt over Little Charlie, and unhappy with his life (2 out of 3 daughters living far away AND all of the crap going on with Violet).
All in all, although it was not my favorite play, I'm glad I saw it!
Johnna felt like an unnecessary insert character to me.
Just an excuse to make ethnic jokes.
