Je Veux Te Voir is a vivid exploration of womanhood, power, and presence—a performance that blurs the line between seduction and satire. Performed by seven women dressed in heels and lingerie, the work takes traditionally sexualized symbols and transforms them into instruments of agency. From the moment they enter, the dancers command the space, moving with a confidence that is as deliberate as it is magnetic.

The choreography thrives on the boldness of pedestrian gestures—struts, glances, stillness—stripped to their essence and amplified through unapologetic clarity. Every movement is sharply defined yet infused with sly humor and a playful sense of mischief, keeping the audience engaged and unsettled. Each step, pause, and glance is executed with precision and control, revealing the discipline behind the apparent simplicity.

At its core, Je Veux Te Voir challenges how femininity is perceived and consumed. These women are not on stage to please; they are there to confront, to reclaim, and to rewrite the gaze. The piece transforms the performance space into both battleground and playground, a place where power is not handed over but seized—where womanhood owns the stage, the gaze, and the story.

This compelling work was performed by The G Strings at Detour Gallery for the launch party of Working Artist Magazine on June 26, showcasing Roberta Lavalle’s signature choreographic voice and commitment to redefining female presence on stage.  Roberta previously performed Love to Love You at The Dollhouse Experience at The Racket Club NYC. Choreographed by Marie Rose Barramo, Roberta delivered the piece with remarkable intention, precision, and sensuality as well as physicality—showcasing her expertise in blending contemporary and commercial dance styles. This performance highlights her refined technical skill and nuanced artistry, reflecting years of dedicated training and a distinctive ability to convey complex emotion through movement.

Roberta Lavalle is a professional freelance movement artist based in New York City. Born and raised in Mexico, she brings deep cultural roots and a global perspective to her work. Roberta moved to New York to further her training through the Certificate Program at Peridance Center, where she refined her technique and cultivated her distinct artistic voice.

Her career spans both commercial and contemporary realms, having performed with renowned artists such as Zara Larsson and Tito Doble P, and worked under the direction of choreographers including Zoi Tatopoulos and Jose “Boyboi” Tena. Roberta is currently a member of an all-female dance company led by Kendrick Samuels, which is preparing for several upcoming projects—including a full evening-length show premiering in January.
