I recently just watched a documentary on Jerome Robbins and was absolutely astounded by it. What a life he led. Can anyone recall stories or quotes from him? It seems that him and Athur Laurents had quite the reputation on Broadway.

Did they talk about the controversial McCarthyism allegations in the film? Is it true that he "named names?"

Yes they did talk about that and yes he did name names in fear of people finding out about his relations with men.

Well, it's good that they covered both the highlights and dark spots of his life. What a shame. I hate when brilliant artists get caught up in such personal trouble, but he's human, after all...

There are 2 very good bios of Robbins with lots of stories.  Yes Robbins did name names, he felt at the time he was going to be outed and he gave in and named several people he knew as Commies. One of which was Jack Guilfords wife which caused some conflicts when he was brought in (by Sondheim's advice) to doctor A FUNNY THING... out of town, Mostel (who had also been named but not by Robbins) was livid at first but when asked if he would have trouble with that said "Do I have to eat with him?" When told no, he said yes because he said the left did not discriminate. Guilford wanted to quit but his wife Madeline said "don't let that bastard take another job from you!".

I guess Zero Mostel put whatever differences he had with Jerome Robbins behind him. They worked together on "Fiddler on the Roof".

From what I've read about Jerome Robbins I get he really loathed himself for being homosexual.
