i need an audition piece (well, to be technical. it's not REALLY fot an audition, it's for a camp, but ANYWAY)
i need a piece from one of Jerry Herman's shows, like Hello Dolly, Mame, Mack and Mabel, La Cage, or Dear World, that a baritone could do. i was thinking perhaps It Only Takes A Moment from Dolly, but it IS a bit high in the end AND there is more to it than just the beginning male solo.
any ideas?
please let me know! i also need sheet music, if anyone knows where to find some! thanks!
my range is about an E below the bass clef to a middle E on a relatively good day, and an F on a really good day. G if I'm really belty.
thanks again.

MARIANNE from THE GRAND TOUR. You won't find a better baritone ballad in Herman's oeurvre.
"i am what i am" is a great character song. It can be really impressive when it's done well in character.
One of my faves.
I Won't Send Roses, from Mack and Mabel - beautiful low baritone song - very lovely.
There is a snippet of lyrics from "I Won't Send Roses" in my signature. It is a gorgeous song. I recommend that you use it.
"My Best Girl" from Mame, perhaps?

I second (or third) "I Am What I Am." If you're looking for a ballad, how about "Song on the Sand"?
would singing a bit of "Hello, Dolly" be appropriate? I know the men sing a bit before Dolly comes in.
I recently found out it only has to be 16 measures, so. The only issue is I need sheet music, and I don't want to buy the Jerry Herman Anthology if I am going to use it only once (I'm not really a Herman fan).
Any where I could get individual songs from obscure musicals?
The director of the music theatre workshop I'm going to (at Westminster Choir College), Frank Abrahams, mentioned these:
"I Won't Send You Roses" - Mack and Mabel (sheet music issues?)
"Movies Were Movies" - " "
"Hundreds of Girls" - " "
"My Best Girl" from Mame
"It Takes A Woman" from Hello Dolly
Opinions?
Thanks!

If you're looking for something a little less traditional, I think that "Time Heals Everything" could be a gorgeous baritone song in the right key.

in the original key would be fine for a baritone.
yes, i agree! the only thing is, they are looking for male songs because we are trying out to sing them in the final showcase.
thanks for all the input, though! keep it coming, if you will!
what show is look over there from?

look over there is a gorgeous song from la cage aux folles.. in my opinion it is the most gorgeous and poignant number in the show. especially the reprise! it is sung by georges to jean michel. georges is telling him to look at albin, who has given his life to raising and loving jean michel, and all jm does is spit in albin's face with disrespect and irreverance. the reprise is sung by jm himself at anne's family, this is when he finally gets the point. it is so gorgeous and this is the song i would really recommend for you the most.
sounds truly deep.
i'm checking that song out right now.
as of yet, the favorite is "I Won't Send Roses."
i suppose I'll have to order the book from amazon.com
"Masculinity" from La Cage is a great character song.
And maybe "With You on My Arm", from La Cage.
Good luck!
