Posted: 1/24/05 at 11:54amHey Elphaba4: Have you seen the show? Have you heard the recording? Are you able to form an objective and intelligent opinion on anything outside your Wicked, (Pre-)Teen Vogue?

I tried to get tickets to it when I was in London---sold out. I saw "Mary Poppins" and "The Woman in White" instead.
Bought cast album recently---so funny.

Interesting that you say it was sold out...when I went last March it was so empty they upgraded my balcony ticket to the 7th row of the stalls. (However they did put out "House full" signs anyway!)
I thought much of the cast was good and there were some great voices, but I wasn't a fan of the show itself. I thought its premise grew a little tiresome for a two-hour plus show, it might have worked better for me as a shorter piece. I did enjoy the "commercials", though!

I know.
I thought I would be able to get tickets very easily.

Posted: 1/24/05 at 2:08pmWhat's even more bizarre about the sold out Springer story (which has now posted closing notices due to poor ticket sales) is that MEF managed to get tickets to 2 of the hottest shows in London instead. Curiouser and curiouser.

I bought those tickets prior to going to London. I didn't just pop in day-of.
BTW, is the "Grand Hotel" revival still playing in London?
re: Jerry Springer Opera#11
Posted: 1/24/05 at 2:17pmYes it is, but only until 12th Feb, and all performances are sold out. I am going on Thursday night to the extra late night show for the tsumani relief effort.
re: Jerry Springer Opera#12
Posted: 1/24/05 at 2:22pmI'm dissapointed. I won't be in London again for a while. I bet Mary Elizabeth is perfect for the role. Loved her as Aldonza. Will they do a cast album, and if so, will it be released in the States?
re: Jerry Springer Opera#13
Posted: 1/24/05 at 5:34pmI love the Jerry Springer recording. The score is simply amazing with incredible vocal performances all around. I'm really hoping the show comes over. I'm dying to see it. The video clip online looks wonderful.

Re: Grand Hotel recording - unlikely. The only Donmar shows that produce cast recordings are either new works (like The Fix) or ones that transfer (Company)
And I agree with NBC - it was just a little too thinly stretched for me. Entertaining enough, and makes an interesting point (which most of the Christian protesters failed to get) but I'm not going to shed any tears over it's departure

That's exactly how I feel! Well done for summing it up in words.

Dear God, it was tongue-in-cheek! Yeeeesh. I hate it when I have to explain humour.

Posted: 1/28/05 at 5:27pmjust have to add that i loved this show and i couldn't stop laughing!!! You have to go in thinking that it is based on a campy show and then you will have fun. Just my opinoin.
re: Jerry Springer Opera#20
Posted: 1/29/05 at 12:58pmI just got the CD, and it was fun for the first 15 minutes, but I found it tiring. White trash singing "the 'F' word"--kind of a funny idea--but it didn't really pan out as a whole for me.
