Jerry Springer - hit or flop

Is Jerry Springer : The Opera a hit or a flop in London?

"Hit, Hit" you all scream.

Well yes, you can't beg, borrow, or steal a ticket to the sold-out performances of the show at the National.

Then tickets went on sale for the transfer.

The most tightly guarded secret in the British theater world at the moment is the advance box office takings for the transfer.

Well, I'm taking a little gander at the box office manifests...and well, my lips are sealed but I simply ask again : "hit or FLOP?"

Well, see for yourself. Go to www.ticketmaster.co.uk and look for Jerry Springer the Opera, chose a Saturday evening performance near the beginning of the run, type in 20 tickets and if they're available then we're talking flop.

The theatre it's transferring to is a dump. Big fat dump.

Jake.

Yes, you are right...a dump.

The wrong venue for what is supposed to be a major hit.

Everyone is wondering why such a poor choice was made.

Saturday night sales-only aren't the best of indicators - but it might be an interesting test as you suggest.

I am more interested in the actual advance ticket sales for the entire transfer run to date.

The b.o. takings to date I am looking at are...well, shocking.

It might be a dump but it's an awfully well positioned dump, on the cusp of Covent Garden and Soho, their walk in trade has the potential to be huge.

But, if you charge £50 top price for a show ALL WEEK in a city that is not used to and resents such hugh pricing, well then you're just pricing yourself out of the market.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.
