How crazy and odd is that??? The daughter of the show's director gets cast in...her dad's show!!
That is crazy! Did he know it was his daughter? I mean, I'm sure she was given the job because she was the best qualified for the job...unlike the hundreds of non-Zack related performers. I'm sure no strings were pulled on this one.
:)
Ignorance is temporary. Stupidity last forever.
Watch out BWW...
HE'S BACK.
What about Merrily We Roll Along. Harold Prince cast his daughter Daisy.
If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.
Puh-leeze this whole industry is about who you know. She had to get in somehow. Alexander Gemignani was in Assassins, whose Musical Director was his father, Paul Gemignani.
i couldnt agree more- broadway has two sides- honest to god talent and who you know. its all about connections

Same thing with designers...it is all about who you know. Talent plays a big role as well, but connections are what let you be able to show off your talents.
According to an interview, Alex Gemignani went in to audition for an ensemble role. Joe Mantello saw him and got the idea of using him as Hinckley. Neither Alex nor his father had thought of the possibility of his playing that role.
emma zaks is jerry's daughter. She was also in Encores BBB and was basically the only one to still use her script during performance. She was the most lackluster Ursela I have ever seen.
That was the most lackluster production of BBB I've ever seen! I went because I love the show and have never seen it professionaly staged. Of course, it wasn't a full production, but it was so lame and bland. The choreography was a joke, and none of the performers were very good - I left at intermission so discouraged and pissed off.

Agreed.. I have to say Even Grove grew on my nerves. It was just a bad version. If i didn't pay $100 , I would have left. I do have to say that I wish Victoria Clarke was on bway currently because she was the highlight.
Re: the Zaks family, this is not a big deal. At all. If he had cast her in the lead, it would raise a few more eyebrows, but still, no big deal. Especially if she's good.
And I didn't see the Encores Birdie, but they're still technically concerts/staged readings. So it's kind of lame to rag on someone for using their script. Cause that's, you know, the point.
if she had been exciting in the role , it would have been one thing... it wasn't JUST her..it was the show itself. Just BLAH. I'm sorry if you feel I am out of line because you are on broadway.

I thought Bob Gaynor had the right attitude to play Conrad Birdie. He also looked good in the gold lame and had the hair.
"I'm learning to dig deep down inside and find the truth within myself and put that out. I think what we identify with in popular music more than anything else is when someone just shares a truth that we can relate to. That's what I'm searching for in my music." - Ron Bohmer
"I broke the boundaries. It wasn't cool to be in plays- especially if you were in sports & I was in both." - Ashton Kutcher
BBB is a FUN show dammit lol. While there were major talents , I felt there could have been more done. But, no use bringing up something that happened before summer. People have all moved on to better things. Was that Conrad guy ever offered ASU?
I haven't said anything about this yet, but I understand it from both sides. Clearly, there are so many undiscovered amazingly talented people out there who will never be discovered for one reason or another, but it is undeniable that a major part of this business is who you know - and that's sad, and unfortunate. If nepotism was truly why Paul G's son was cast in ASSASSINS, he turned out to be amazing. When it comes to Jerry Z's daughter, it seems obviously that it's because of nepotism, not because of her talent. I don't think that's okay, but people get what they deserve in the end, usually. And I'm sure people directly in the business have surely noticed her appearing in two of his shows not doing a very good job. If nothing else, people loose a little respect for Jerry and I'm sure if he continues to do this, it will catch up to him. As far as she's concerned, let's see if she's cast in a show that her father's not involved with anytime soon. I bet not.
Wow, that was very scatterbrained...it's 4 am and time for bed!

why is someone making a big stink about a father casting his own daughter in his own show? it's his right. and even if she isn't the best candidate in the role it isn't any of your business. you are incredibly naive if you think show business isn't full of nepotism.
she could have changed her last name, given a great performance and no one would have been the wiser. then again, according to you she's "lackluster" but when it all is over and done with she's still in the show like it or not.

I am not agreeing with the casting but Broadway is connections-related.
