Saw Jersey Boys in Vegas last night. I enjoyed this company a lot more than the original broadway company in every way. And the show plays so beautifully in Vegas. Sad to say they were playing to a half empty house. We got our discounted balcony seats through one of those agencies in front of the Tropicana. When we arrived the usher immediately changed our tickets and put us orchestra center. One more thing.. the theater is a pain to get in and out of. Intermission is only 8 minutes and less than half of the half empty audience made it to their seats back in time. Great show. I am sure heavier discounts will be out there soon thru services such as goldstar and halftix tonight. Spamalot closes there at the end of this month. Phantom is doing ok ( heavily discounted) . Will be interesting so see how long Jersey Boys last.
PS. Saw Bette Midlers show again. Her wonderful show is now even better. She is packing them in.

Yep. So far it is not bringing the crowds in. Of course.. it is July in Vegas. It seems that Bette, Cher, and the Cirque shows are the only things with a must see status there right now. Even Elton John is playing to far from full heavily discounted houses. I am sure gas prices are not helping either.

Posted: 7/8/08 at 7:42pmThere was 0 traffic on the 15 over July 4th weekend. So gas prices definitely have something to do with it.

Posted: 7/8/08 at 8:01pmSpamalot never caught on. By the way ; most hotels are offering $100.00 gas vouchers. you just have to show a receipt of a day off gas purchase.

I saw most of the OBC (including all of the leads) and the Vegas cast in previews, and would have to agree. Total shame about attendance, though. I hope the performance you were at was just a fluke and not indicative of a typical night these days.

Posted: 7/8/08 at 11:07pmI hope so to. Perhaps in September when all the big conventions start coming into town. We will be back for Cher then.

Hey, Dame,
I read your initial reaction to Jersey Boys Broadway? Did you ever see it with the full OBC? In saw that you saw Dominic Nolfi and not JLY...

Posted: 7/9/08 at 1:17amYay! I'm glad you liked the Vegas cast. I saw the pre-cast in San Francisco. Jeff Leibow is hands down my favorite. EVER.

Posted: 7/9/08 at 1:43amhmm, never saw that you did,,,but good to know, I saw the Vegas Company and Faugno must have taken a huge leap, because I found him to be no comparison (although, a great dancer)...but I havent been much of a tour fan...

Posted: 7/9/08 at 9:08amI was in Vegas for the July 4th weekend too and I stayed at Palazzo. I'm surprised to hear that they were playing to a half empty house. I went to the agency in Fashion Show Mall and they told me they didn't have discounted tickets for Jersey Boys so I ended up seeing Spamalot. Hope I can catch it next time.

re: Jersey Boys in Vegas / Broadway#12
Posted: 7/9/08 at 12:07pmIt was definitely playing to a half empty house. The agency in front of the Fashion mall didn't have much of anything. The choices when we went were Rosanne, Phantom, and Mystere. That is why we went to the little agency in front of the Tropicana. And JB.. I was not singling out one person. The whole production is ( for me) at a higher level than what I saw in NY.

So it's exactly the same show in LV as in NYC? I know a number of shows were cut down/abridged to get the family back in the casino faster. (Guess that's the reason for the short intermission?)
Considering JB seems to be selling out in NYC for the forseeable future, I guess I may catch this when I'm there in August. The Tix places are still the best bets? Last time I looked at a discount place they were mediocre discounts with large fees.

Posted: 7/9/08 at 1:39pmNo, there are cuts and the intermission is incredibly short. But the cuts are mostly bits of dialog or verses of songs, not whole scenes.

Posted: 7/9/08 at 1:44pmI would think by then goldstar will have discounted seats. i would use them first before a agency.

Posted: 7/9/08 at 2:51pmIt's amazing. Casino operators see every 5 seconds you spend in the theater as another lost slot spin.

I don't know. All I can tell you is that the characters seemed more layered and the book scenes were very effective. Especially between Franki and his first wife. Also.. Jeremy Kushnier is heart breaking as Tommy Devito. And Erich Bergen as Bob Gaudio gives the play a focus that I thought was missing before.
