Some shows are indeed planned for crossing the boarder but others are not., When INTO THE WOODS sent out a post-Broadway tour in 1988/89 (with Cleo Lanie as the witch) I had hopes it would come to Toronto. I spoke with one of the tour producers and he explained that the contracts only allowed the tour to play the U.S.
Sometimes Canadian producers have held the rights thereby preventing a tour from playing here. Mirvish apparently held the rights for the LCT CAROUSEL so the tour never played here and sadly Mirvish never produced it. Can't remember why.
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
