Jersey Boys: Is it a Rock Biography or a Jukebox Musical?

In a UPI story I read today,

Jersey Boys cast member J. Robert Spencer (Nick Massi) says the hit Broadway show is a rock biography with great music, not a jukebox musical.

Do you guys agree with Spencer? I think I agree with him. Jersey Boys tells the story of rise and fall of The Four Seasons and plays a ton of their hits--but the story itself is not written around the songs, like all the other jukebox musicals.

Does it use a pre-existing pop catalogue? If so, it's a jukebox musical. The fact that it happens to take the form of a biography doesn't exampt it. For other examples, look no further than Lennon and The Boy From Oz.

Whatever it is, it is well done.
Additionally, I sat next to Spencer at Reichard's concert.
The Jersey Boys I have met have all been great guys and every one is full of talent.
Go see Jersey Boys!

Sadly, I have never met Reichard and his concert at the ARS NOVA WAS HILARIOUS.(what would you expect from a Forbidden Broadway star
