Herod has been played many ways. He's been played gay, funny, scary, etc.

What is your fav portrayal of him? I like it when he's played as funny at first, but turns scary at the end. Barry Dennan played him that way. :)

And Rik Mayall did too, I think. I couldn't tell if he was trying to be funny or not at first. But he's definetely scary at the end.

I'd also play him as sort of a magician who does everything by fraud, and you can tell that he does; for 'change my water into wine' he'd put red food coloring into water and stir it up.
And of course he wants to know if Jesus's powers are real!
