Hey guys Was just wondering is there any plans for Jesus christ superstar to go on tour or go back to the West end soon. I was chatting to someone in a UK Touring Show and they were saying that Kenwright had plans for this. Was just wondering if anyone heard anything
Hey, I heard on another board that they wanted to tour it again but they cannot as ALW wants it for one of his reality shows for a new West End revival. Don't quote me on this but it's what I heard, I hope this helps x
thats similar to what i heard. I was told that Kenwright wanted to tour it but was stoppsed by the Really Useful group because they have a reality show in the line for a west end revival. Also I have seen on the other boards about this. There was talk on the Broadway board about it and Lee Mead was mentioned in it to be tipped to play either Jesus or Judas. U would asume that the reality TV show would focus on finding a Jesus for the show
No, Lee talked on the radio about there having been the possibility of a concert version that he might have been involved with. But he said that had been pulled, in favour of what could possibly be a West End revival.
Personally JCS is one of the few revivals I would love to see back in the West End though. And ideally that would be with Steve Balsamo again for me. But I don't think there has been any real rumour (in recent times, at least) that it is intended to be another reality casting. I know ALW was quoted long ago as having the perception that it would be appropriate just because it is well known enough, but it would be a travesty for Jesus to be cast without whoever actually auditioning a song as specifically challenging and critical to the performance as "Gethsemane". And it would be dreadfully irresponsible to risk someone without the necessary training being cast too. It is a too difficult sing for the reality casting process!
But maybe the advantage of assured success will override common sense. I hope not! But I can't say I think it too likely that ALW would want "Love Never Dies" to have that competition of his own work too soon. I don't think he would bring JCS back inside a year. But if there is a possibility of the reality casting thing for it, it wouldn't be intended to be until 2011 at the earliest. The Wizard of Oz, assuming intent to write new material hasn't changed plans, is scheduled for 2010.
