"Jesus Christ Superstar" Gospel in Atlanta

Wow! I saw this show over the weekend and it is one of the best things I have seen on the stage in a LONG time. The cast is incredible, the set is stunning, the costumes are wonderful, and the lighting, direction, and orchestrations are brilliant! The whole gospel take on this show is so cool and fitting to this piece. The gospel choir sound and arrangements had me in tears several times during the performance. The set is all white marble with a small lift center stage that is used for levels and furniture pieces. It also has a cat walk that is used for the priests and guards of Pilate. The costumes of most are all white and very stylish with the priests wearing red zoot type suits and pilate in black with red. Herod wears a purple "pimp" suit that is so sheik and hysterical to the style of the piece. I have never had goose bumps during a show as much as I did here. Jesus, Judas, and Mary are all played with tour de force performances that bring down the house. As a side note, the woman playing Mary is Nicole Long and this is her first professional job! She is incredible and will hopefully enjoy a remarkable career in theater. There are some heavy hitters in this production from NY, including Darius de Haas('Rent' and 'Kiss of the Spider Woman') and Destan Owens (Tom Collins in 'Rent'). Overall, I really wish someone with some serious cash would pick this up and bring it to Broadway. I think it would be an exceptional production there. Kudos to Susan Booth, Director and Louis St. Louis, Arrangements for putting together such a remarkable production.

I want to see this show soooooo badly. I'm trying to get some stuff together to go down there and see it before it closes. I have heard spectacular things about it. I hope it comes to Broadway...the video below showcases some of the brilliant new arrangements of the score.
