I saw the show as a young teen and remember enjoying Ms. Haworth's poignant performance very much. The ending, with Schultz and other characters fooling themselves with false optimism, coupled with the wavy, almost funhouse mirror representation of the audience, gave me an eerie chill. So effective. Added plus: I attended with my best friend, who had written to Jack Gilford requesting a backstage visit. (Maybe she liked his potato chip commercials; I can't remember.) To our surprise, he agreed. So back we went. Got such a thrill seeing Joel Grey casually engaged in conversation with a visiting Larry Blyden on the stairs. Gilford was very pleasant. Seems he enjoyed having teenage girls come by to chat. What a sweetheart. All very innocent, and so memorable.
