So do the actors in his musicals get paid for being an actor in the show and part of the orchestra? That would be a nice little bonus...

For SWEENEY, a deal was worked out with Equity and the musicians's union (which the entire cast had to join) that performers would be paid the higher of the two salaries. In most cases, that was the musician's salary since although the base pay was roughly the same, you get extra compensation for each additional instrument you play under the musician's contract.

Of course, Lupone and Cerveris had separate agreements altogether due to their Tony wins and higher profile.
