But based on his reported yearly salary and the fact that it went far BEYOND paying for his lover's medication very quickly - and despite helping the cabaret industry, it was a troubling display of ego and self importance.

Creating a website for a book that has, as far as I can tell, no publisher or publication date, but plenty of self-serving copy along the lines of "savior of cabaret" and "launcher of careers." This man didn't "save" cabaret, nor did he "launch" any careers. He did leave a few performers holding the bag, however.

I have not seen the show. Still trying to get a ticket. Apparently someone wants to see it. All tickets at The York were gone within days, a month in advance. I remember the story, but will wait to see the show, before I pass judgement. I hope to see it.
The York would not take it if it did not have merit. I don't think they would take a play about just self importance. I know someone who saw a early reading, and I was told the play takes major hits at John about his spending habits.
About the book, I have not read that either, other than what is on the website. But, the first two chapters, is like judging a book by it's cover. Who knows where it goes? It's conclusion?
Maybe the book and the play will answer many of these thoughts brought up by us. I think I will not attack, until I see what is said. From what I can see on the "Arturo's Window" site, it does does mention John's lavish ways, and makes him face his demons. Now, I really want to see the play. I wish I could sell out The York in just a few days......
There were a lot of articles written. I remember many of those totally contradicted themselves. Even Liz Smith chimed in. But, I remember nothing John said.

I am not a producer, but if I was I would invest in this play. What an amazing story, and its TRUE!!!! I remember this. It was a regular soap opera in the press. I remembering thinking to myself, this is so very theatrical. I am excited to see it. I just did some googling. All of the press reports said something different. He was making $45K in one, $64K in another and The Daily News said he was making $225K A Year
I see where it is sold out, and there is a wait list. This sounds new, innovative, almost like "Reality Theatre". All the facts are different. I guesss now we can tie it all together. I am curious how the songs fit in. Has anyone seen it?
Anyone have an extra ticket!!! :)))
I love The York, they always choose innovative shows. I predict this one will make it.
Not only is it true crime, but it sems to touch the emotions. I can't wait to hear this man's take on the entire episode.
Thanks for reading
Matt
