John Lloyd Young's fan mail

People on this board seriously just like to pick on certain others... Wicked fans usually take most the beating, along with Idina fans. It is kind of sad but at the same time everyone has their opinions. And, sometimes you do just have to laugh and take it in stride because this board, atleast I think, is pretty representative of real life, it's harsh!

Key points:
1. Don't post the same thing over and over
2. Be prepared to get ridiculed if you say I LOOOOOOOVE anyone, and certain people more than others
3. Proof read

But then again... people do need to relax

Edit: JLY... who knew!?!?

I'm surprised no one has said this yet, but...

JLY's Jersey Gal... You should read the FAQ page. It is very informative, and very funny too. A definite must for newbies...

JLY sent me a really nice card in the mail. He has to be one of the nicest guys on Broadway to reply back to all of his fan mail [does anybody else do that?].

Oh, and if that's really JLY- how nice could he be for backing up a fan like that?

I've wrote a letter to JLY and the rest of the guys with a couple of fan photos with them and an article I wrote for my school paper and I think it was the following Saturday I got a postcard in the mail from JLY.

I've also been sending a couple of emails to him and he's sent back replies from a few(during his sick time).

That was quite kind of him. He seems like such a cool guy.

I'm shocked that people aren't jumping to question the validity here, but are rather just up and accepting it. I'm not saying one way or the other -- I could care less -- but normally people are so quick to call fake.

Thank you. I've PMed people asking them what they thought and still can't decide...

Guess we'll have to leave it at that.

Frankly, it doesn't really matter. I just find this an interesting abandon of habit.

Well how about I vouch for the validity of that post. Because with 100 percent certaintly - it is.

And I don't think it's necc. to jump on the younger posters because they are passionate about a show or performer (whatever the show or whoever the performer is).. When someone (especially the younger set) can get passionate about theater, that shouldn't be a bad thing.

We were all young once. We were all obsessive about things (and many still are). And at one point, we were all first time posters.

I think that many people who've been here for a long time forget that this isn't a private club or "their" home. Every day hundreds and thousands of new people log onto this site. If you're so compelled to respond to a new poster, why not respond with helpful information as to either where to find the information or provide the information yourself rather than hanging them out to dry.

Does that really make you feel better about yourself? I hope not.

I am also very sorry, Craig, and to the young fan we were rude to.
And yes, I decided to go for my own "not-be-mean" policy. You never know who is lurking on these boards...

Wow, I am really glad everyone has cooled down. I mean, who cares what the age of the posters are? You were young too, just like Craig said. Sure, some people might not have the best grammar or spelling, and some people like Wicked. But that doesn't mean we should give them any less respect, right? So, the next time you see a newbie, just tell them to step back a bit and observe, because God knows what you can do to piss people off on this site.

Thanks for staying chill, guys. :]

Haha! The WICKED part made me laugh.
Thanks, Raviolisun for the advice.
But I shouldn't have even needed advice to not be mean...wow

Maybe we should just let this thread wither and die...

See, while I think SOME leniency and decency is in order, obviously, I don't think that that should be extended to excusing absolutely incomprehensible spelling and typing. I'm not saying that's present here -- I could pretty much understand what she was saying, but just in general, I don't think that's something that should really be allowed to slide. It's inconsiderate to type so carelessly that it makes your writing hard for people to understand. Personally, I don't condone many errors at all, but I know that's not exactly right, either.

to luvtheEmcee...The grammatic errors piss me off just as much as it does to you, but someone being uneducated doesn't mean they can't enjoy theater.

Luv-

Good point. However, there is ALWAYS a way to address that situation without resorting to slamming or being what I would consider obnoxious about it.

A simple caveat or suggestion to the new poster (or old) like "Interesting questions (opinion, whatever) - Before I respond, might I suggest you take a few moments and edit your original post or proofread it before hitting the post message button"

or whatever.

I have my own personal pet peeves like people using single letters or numbers for words (4, r u going?, etc) or using uPPeR and LoWErCasE or even ALL CAPS WHEN THEY POST - but I either ignore them or the post, or make a suggestion to go back and edit it accordingly.

There's a decent way to offer help to someone who may or may not know better and a snotty way.

Wow I'm happy I didn't find this thread sooner, bc I know I would have said something about JLY not really being him, and then immediately felt like crap.

On another note I actually was about to write him a letter tonight! So it's kind of odd that this thread happens to be here.

adios now.

I've been on BWW for nearly two years now and, sad to say, not much surprises me anymore. Honestly, if JLY himself hadn't hopped on this thread, I doubt there would have been any appologies made to this young fan.

And yet I keep posting here because there ARE good people and some genuinely great discussions. It's just unfortunate that there are quite a few posters who seem to be hanging around for something *other* than Broadway, with agendas of their own. I could ask for it to please stop, but I know it won't.

The nature of the internet is pretty weird- people feel safe in ridiculing/criticising others behind a certain (false sense of?) anonymity since there's no face-to-face contact involved. Very shy people can have highly agressive "online personalities" and vice versa. In the end, just like in any other free-for-all playground situation with a mixture of bullies and cool kids, you need to develop a thick skin. Don't let it ruin things for you, JLY's Jersey Gal! re: John Lloyd Young's fan mail I love Jersey Boys, I love Broadway and, heck, I even love Broadway World, (warts and all).

i agree, DreamFlyer
i remember when i was a newbie and id say to myself "wow, these people can be pretty mean". i always had a goal not to be mean to people, but over time...i guess i just did
i think it is sort of a problem on this board being rude to people, even when we think we're justified, we're not, because it truly isnt justified to be mean to someone ever
i know we all are rude at times, myself included, but maybe we could try and keep that to a minimum

i know this post isnt going to work, and may make some people mad, but its just a sort of goal for all of us to have

sorry, JLY's Jersey Gal, and to everyone other newbie, and not-so-newbies, i've been rude to

yeah
