A great actor, a lengthy and prolific career. Father of Hailey and Juliette.
That's so sad! He was so terrific in CATS!

A remarkable actor for several decades, a great stage actor and an Oscar-winner for "Ryan's Daughter" (CATS is NOT one of his major credits) may he rest in peace.
We know that CATS is not one of his major credits.....

He's been in Pygmalion, as well as numerous Shakespeare productions (I think... I may be thinking of someone else).
His imdb credits are here: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0590055/
I know CATS wasn't by any means one of his major credits, but sadly it's the only video (well, DVD, in this case) I have of any of his performances.

It's fascinating that he went blind about 15 years ago, but kept acting, playing both blind and seeing characters up to this year.
I just looked up that he made his stage debut in London 76 YEARS AGO, in 1929 in the chorus of "The Five O'Clock Girl" and some of his notable London stage roles included Puck, Charley's Aunt, Young Marlow in "She Stoops to Conquer," several Coward plays and many other light comedies (he was more a light comedian than a Shakespearean).

He was Gus.
EDIT: That is fascinating. And rather inspiring, too.

How sad. I have always admired him - such a wonderful, wonderful actor (who wasn't above making a cameo appearance in his daughter's movie, "The Parent Trap" as a golf caddie...). I think my favorite movie of his is the movie in which, ironically enough, Hayley was discovered - "Tiger Bay". He was exceptional in that, as was she. I also grew up watching him in the Disney movie, "Swiss Family Robinson", and enjoyed his work in movies such as "The Chalk Garden" and "The Family Way".
May he rest in peace.
Awww, that's sad......I was bidding on Ryan's Daughter on ebay on time, but got outbid. I like to watch oscar winning performances, I read it was a surprise win. Anybody see it?
He may have been most famous for his role as Pip in Great Expectations but my favorite role of his was Willie Mossop in Hobson's Choice opposite the great Charles Laughton.

Haley is in The Bird Sanctuary with Elizabeth Franz right now at The Public Theatre in Pittsburgh...her understudy has never been rehearsed...hope she's ready anyway!
He was also really lovely in the Andre Previn/Johnny Mercer musical THE GOOD COMPANIONS with Judi Dench in London.
