Posted: 11/19/09 at 12:47pmI watched The View this am and according to Sherri Shepard reading her index cards, John Stamos received raves in the show. I haven't seen it, nor will I, but according to the reviews I've read and posts on the boards, he received all around pans. He was on to promote the show of course and has to put on a happy face but please....he is really cute and charming though ...haven't seen her TV show, and never will but how does she work so much?..she is not funny, and seems really stupid and talent free,- she is one lucky woman but I don't get it- just like I don't get people camping out overnight to meet Sarah Palin. But that's what makes the world go round.

Posted: 11/19/09 at 12:55pmIf one reviewer raved about him even if it was a reviewer from Podunk they can say he received raves. It's not a lie. What's she going to say "And our next guest is John Stamos who received tepid reviews for his role in Bye Bye Birdie"? Of course not. It's not any different than the producers pulling positive quotes from reviews.

Sherri Shepard really pisses me off with her stupidity and hypocritical behavoir: one day she's sitting next to that Goslin woman, laughing and kissing her ass and the next day she's screaming for Balloon Boy's parents to be sent to jail for exploiting their kids.
And her stance against gay marriage doesn't help, she does appear to be rather ignorant.
Sorry to rant.

Ha! I laughed at that comment too. I was like, "Rave reviews!? From who? Where?"
I did think it was hilarious when Sherri shouted, "I will have your baby!" And Whoopi and Joy remarked about her hypocrisy about that, even though Sherri was just joking of course. I can only really tolerate Whoopi and Joy on that show, but John was charming as always and at least he seems to be having fun with the show.

Dollypop, just because they do it doesn't make it okay.
I support me some Whoops and Joy, but the other two/sometimes three pander a little too much.

I saw Birdie last night and from the advance word was not expecting much. From having seen many not-so-good community stagings over the years it IS a treat to hear it done professionally.
The show has a far less effective 2nd act (maybe that's why they changed it for the movie to make the Ed Sullivan show happen at the end.) Of course, the show has lost all of its relevance, but it is still an entertaining cartoon of a show. I have a feeling many people blame the production when the show itself is not all that solidly constructed.
Stamos and Gershon seem to have settled into the roles, Stamos in particular is sounding better than he did on early clips posted with the reviews, and his eccentric dancing harkened back to rubber-legged Dick Van Dyke. Gershon must be studying the OBCR because many of Chita's vocal nuances have found their way into her performance.
Nolan Funk was out - Understudy just fine. (Don't have playbill with me atm)
Tonight: FINIAN'S RAINBOW!
Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!
I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com

Of course, the show has lost all of its relevance
Because teenagers stopped going crazy for rockers? Because they stopped having communication problems with their parents? Because guys are no longer oblivous when a woman is in love with them? Because there are no more mama's boys?
I hope you enjoy Finian's...I'm going to tomorrow's matinee.
