Last night i finally got to go see the producers, to my suprise the therater was almost 3/4 full, albiet my girlfriend and i were the youngest in the audience, as most of them were well over 50..... i was immediately concerned although they were laughing harder than we were at some of the raunchier jokes.
It seems to me after taking in this movie that the critics didn't really get the point per sey. It IS cheesily shot, the sets DO look fake, and the actors ARE over the top, and it makes it funnier that way, and also allows some of the moments to work far better, especially 'that face'.
Performance wise, Broderick isn't as mechanical as people make him out to be, he had some genuinely funny moments, especially the blue blankey scene, however the yelling randomly got grating. The rest of the cast did a wonderful job with that beloved low brow Mel Brooks Humor. Nathan Lane deserves that golden globe, and frankly his hair should be given a seperate award. While this movie has its flaws, yes the super close clost-ups, especially of gary and roger in keep it gay, get uncomfortable. i feel that it has help up overall better than rent did. Overall i'd give it 3 out of 4 stars.

"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
