I saw that Jonathan Groff is out of the show for a few weeks for a pilot. Has anyone seen the understudy the show. I wanted to take a couple of friends from out of town next week, but I'm sad they will not get to see Jonathan. I think he's excellent in the role (and easy on the eyes)...
You're right. He is really cute. I haven't seen it, but I imagine the understudy would be good. I assume they have talented kids lined up to be in that show.

He has two performing understudies, Matt Doyle and Jesse Swenson. I've seen Matt twice and he is incredible in the role. I much prefer him to Groff. I've heard Jesse is great as well. Matt will be on the 6th-11th.

I haven't seen Matt Doyle in the role, but I just saw Jesse last night and he was VERY good. Though I think he over acted a bit in the beginning (he doesn't do it everyday so I really don't blame him hehehe), he was pretty much in spades for the whole show. His interpretation was a bit more angst-ridden than Groff's, so you can take that with a grain of salt.
I have to say too that it's creepy JUST how much he looks and sounds like Groff 0_O....I'd swear they're each other's doppleganger...

I just learned that Jonathan is from Lancaster in PA. I just saw Catherine Walker as Mary Poppins on Sunday 11/4. She was fabulous and SHE is from Lancaster, PA, too!
i've seen both understudeis i pefer matt doyle.
I just saw Matt tonight, and all I have to say is wow. His Melchior is definitely a must see. I've also seen Jesse, and he's great as well.
All their portrayals are different in their own ways, but Groff, Jesse, and Matt are all amazing.
