Wow, I didn't know that was today. I really admire Jonathan Larson and I love what he wrote and I wish he could have done more. Think of what amazing things could he have done if he were still around.

2. Great buckets of Spoffnor, they're going to sing!
3. "I love shrubs that are historical." -Johnny and The Sprites
4. "We're not singing it to you, we're singing it for us." -Rosario Dawson, about La Vie Boheme
5. "The best moments in reading are when you come across something - a thought, a feeling, a way of looking at things - which you had thought special and particular to you. And now, here it is, set down by someone else, a person you have never met, someone even who is long dead. And it is as if a hand has come out, and taken yours." -The History Boys
6. "Pass the parcel. That's sometimes all you can do. Take it, feel it and pass it on. Not for me, not for you, but for someone, somewhere, one day. Pass it on, boys. That's the game I want you to learn. Pass it on." -The History Boys

Okay. He's dead. Deal with it. Where's your tribute to Jerry Orbach? Or Fred Ebb? Or Ethel Merman? Or Cy Coleman?
SH*T, two shows do not a legacy make.

Well, MisterRussell, given the timing of this thread, I assume the tributes to the people you mentioned will be as follows:
Jerry Orbach: December 28th (which will mark 3 years since his passing
Fred Ebb: September 11th (which will mark 3 years since his passing)
Ethel Merman: February 15th (which will mark 23 years since her passing
Cy Coleman: November 18th (which will mark 3 years since his passing)
You might also want to try a search on the message board. Maybe you'll find something there. Otherwise, let those who choose to pay triute to someone who they admire continue to do so. Have a great day!

Really respectful, MisterRusell...
Ethel Merman thread: https://forum.broadwayworld.com/readmessage.cfm?boardname=bway&thread=923011#2752695
As for Coleman, Orbach, and Ebb, if you want threads about them, start them - I'd gladly (and respectfully) post about each of them.
Back on topic - I completely forgot that this was today... I'll have to break out my 'tick, tick... boom' recording.

Posted: 1/25/07 at 2:08pmI saw RENT a couple of times on tour and it wasn't until I saw it New York that I knew the story of his death. I have seen it now more than 10 times and it is very special to me. At the end of the show I always say those words to myself and I am saying them here.... Thank You Jonathan Larson!

Posted: 1/25/07 at 2:11pm.... also, Merman died in 1984, which was 23 years ago, not 13.

Misterrussell, did you NOT see where I specifically asked to keep this thread respectful? I wrote that because I knew someone like you would try to ruin this thread and turn it into a bash-fest.
Thank you to the rest of you payng your respects.

Posted: 1/25/07 at 3:56pmIt's a tragedy that someone with such genious and potential died so young. I'm so happy that he left us with two wonderful shows to remember him by. They will always hold a special place in my heart.

I hate it when people die... he really could've done so much more with RENT and other shows...

I completely forgot that was today.
If only he could have known that his works would still be affecting people all over the world, even 11 years after his passing.

Live in my house
I'll be your shelter
Just pay me back
With one thousand kisses
Be my lover
And I'll cover you
Open your door
I'll be your tenant
Don't got much baggage
To lay at your feet
But sweet kisses I've got to spare
I'll be there
And I'll cover you
I think they meant it
When they said you can't buy love
Now I know you can rent it
A new lease you were, my love,
On life
All my life
I longed to discover something as true as this is
So with a thousand sweet kisses
When you're col and you're lonely
With a thousand sweet kisses
You've got one nickel only
With a thousand sweet kisses
When you're worn out and tired
With a thousand sweet kisses
When your heart has expired
Oh, lover, I'll cover you
Oh, lover, I'll cover you
This is the only way I could think of to pay tribute to this genius.
