From what I've read, TS Eliot's wife turned Disney down because she didn't want an animated version. She (or the Estate) only sold the rights to the musical because she wanted the human aspect.
This was also years ago, before Pixar/CGI.
But really, a CATS movie? It'd make a terrible movie.

I'm honestly getting sick of all of these musicals becoming movies. They really have to chill out. How many movie adaptions based on musicals are in the works right now?! Isn't the Donny Osmond movie enough? Rant over.
