LOVE him...mentioned in a Kim Huber thread..i felt he deserved his own love thread.
I saw him as Javert several times. He was good, but one of my firends didn't dub him "Sign Language Javert" for nothing, since he seemed to have a different gesture for every line.
And I've never seen a Javert before or after him who made the lamps on that bridge shake so much. I wonder if they had to reinforce it after his pummel horse impressions.

Yay! Joseph Mahowald is one of my favorite performers, and it seems he's very under-appreciated, so thanks for this thread :). The first time I saw him, in Les Mis, I was so far back that I couldn't see any facial expressions, but I loved the way he moved - I felt he acted through his movements wonderfully, and even the way he stood was just so perfect for Javert. And his voice sent chills down my spine. He's also one of those performers who really has to be seen live -- audio clips just don't do him justice.
Count me in as someone who's seen and enjoyed this talented and very nice guy. Saw him as Jekyll and was WOWED when he first opened his mouth. A very expressive performer.
I uderstand there's been some exciting things happening with " A Tale of Two Cities" a project that's been on the books and in the heart of Jill Santoriello for a long time. Joe among is among a host of some wonderful people that are involved with this.

But make sure you have your speakers down, since he has one of those annoying sites that blasts music at you as soon as it's fully loaded.
I saw him as Phoebus, captain of the guard (and Esmerelda's other love interest, besides Quasimodo) in Dennis DeYoung's production of Hunchback of Notre Dame i Nashville in 1997. Definitely a wonderful presence and a beautiful voice!
(Also in that production were James Barbour as Father Frollo and Mike Eldred as Quasimodo)
