The Charlotte Church as Christine thread made me think of this.

Anyone know anything about this kid's acting ability? Groban's voice is one of the top 5 on my list and I can invision him in a lot of different roles ... Marius .... Ché ... Raoul Josh Groban

Any opinions?

I think if he's allowed to branch out and mature, he'd make a great Raoul or Marius . . he's got the voice but needs to get the acting skills.

Nice thinking. I love his voice and think he could take on a lot of roles, vocally. I don't know how his acting is but if it is good he could be a real star. Maybe he could be in ALW's work because it requires being able to act a song but not speaking. I'm sure he could do that because his voice shows so much emotion.

He was in the concert version of Chess a year or two back... not sure how he did in that acting wise, but I've heard his singing was really good.

Josh Groban was a MT major at CMU before dropping out to pursue his recording career.

He did a bunch of Ally McBeal episodes, does that really qualify as acting?

Nice voice, but why do 90% of the songs he does have to be Celine Dion-style overly emotional, sickening, schmultzy crap with no more substance than marshmallow spread?

Well he majored in Drama at my school (LA County High School of the Arts) for all 4 years so he must have some acting ability because my school is pretty much prided in its drama and music departments. He has an amazing voice indeed and from what I've heard he's a pretty good actor.

he always seems pretty boring on stage to me. Whenever he sings I think "oh his voice is nice". But there's always a general wash of emotion, no specificity. maybe it's the song choices he makes.

I just loved the power behind his voice. It's very rich and deep and capturing. I think he could do very well if put in the right role.
